Fortress Investment Group’s Peter Briger: Among the Investment Giants

Peter Briger is the principal and co-chairman of the board of directors of Fortress Investment Group, a leading international investment management firm. At the present time, he oversees the investment group’s credit fund and real estate businesses. Catering to both institutional and private investors, Fortress Investment Group currently oversees the management of over $65 billion of assets.Peter Briger has more than twenty years of asset management experience. Serving as a partner with Goldman Sachs for 15 years, he was responsible for overseeing operations in several different areas of business. His work with Goldman Sachs included his service as a board member on the Compliance Committee, Global Control, and Asian Management Committees.

Briger’s responsibilities included those as co-head of Goldman Sac’s whole loan sales, trading business, and Fixed Income Principal Investments Group. Additionally, Mr. Briger also assisted in managing other divisions, among them the Asian Distressed Debt and the Goldman Sachs Special Opportunities (Asia) Fund.A finance professional with high aspirations, Peter left a stellar career at Goldman Sachs and joined Fortress Investment Group in 2002, four years after it began. He joined the investment firm at the same time as another finance professional Novogratz, who also climbed the corporate ladder of success along with Briger. Peter was hired for the position as alternative asset manager. He achieved billionaire status, along with Wesley Edens and Michael Novogratz, when there was a public offering of Fortress Investment Group a few years afterwards.He is currently 54 years old, married, and has four children.

Peter is originally from New York, New York, but presently lives in San Francisco, California. He earned his Associate of Arts/ Science degree from Princeton University, after which he attended the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, where he earned his M.B.A.Currently, he is not on the Forbes 2018 billionaire list. However, in 2007 Forbes listed Peter Briger Jr. as one of the 400 richest Americans, with a net worth estimated to be approximately $1.5 billion.Peter Briger is involved in several community-driven and philanthropic causes outside of his work. He is a member of the Silicon Valley Leadership Council. This council was established to support the Global Fund for Children. In addition, he serves on the Council on Foreign Relations. The primary purpose of this nonpartisan organization is to promote a better understanding of foreign policy issues between citizens.
